Alcohol & Date Rape Drugs
Athough many cases of date rape drugs sadly exist, it is pivotal to understand
that alcohol is the most commonly used date rape drug in our society. It may be
difficult to comprehend, but we must shift our thought pattern into thinking of
alcohol as a date rape drug. One of the pieces of legislation that we fought
hard for in the Wisconsin Statutes was to eliminate the line “Alcohol is not
an intoxicant” in case sof second degree sexual assault. Angela Rose (founder of PAVE)
and WI Rep Terese Bercaeu held a press conference to raise awareness and gain support
on this issue. Unfortunately, it was held up in committee and never even given a hearing.
In terms of ‘traditional’ date rape drugs, there are many
situations where a person is rendered incapacitated.
Many of these drugs are tasteless, odorless and produce an amnesia-like effect following the experience.
However, one woman who was drugged was able to recall most of the rape, but because of the drug was unable
to speak or even move during the incident. One thing to be aware of is that these drugs move out of your
system rapidly and are often undetectable after 72 hours.
